I discover tips to save money on food
Budget Recommended
Being a student often involves having a very limited budget. However, food expenses are significant in the monthly budget. So, I am discovering the rules to follow to avoid unnecessary expenses.
To validate this mission
Here are the main tips:
- I prioritize homemade meals over ready-made or fast foods. Buying fruits, vegetables, meat, and cooking at home is cheaper than eating out.
- If I crave fast food, I go there in person rather than getting my food delivered.
- I prepare large quantities of food to avoid cooking every day and minimize waste. If I live in a shared accommodation, I buy groceries in bulk and share the expenses.
- I compare prices before making purchases.
I do my grocery shopping in large supermarkets rather than small convenience stores. I take note that the cheapest supermarket chains on average in France are E.Leclerc, Lidl, and Aldi. The most expensive ones are Monoprix, Auchan, and Casino.
Also, starting May 4, 2026, the €1 meal is available to all students. For more information, please consult the following article: https://www.service-public.gouv.fr/particuliers/actualites/A18811
